Bookstore Grand Opening

It was a wild time on campus when the Faculty and Staff finally completed the preparations for the gala event. The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony were held on, yes, April Fools Day 2002 at the Bennett's Pit Bar-B-Que location in Pigeon Forge TN. Kay Powell of the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism, is shown here on the left (that's the picture on the left, not the individual on the left in the picture) as she receives her Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humoristic Science by Professor Emeritus, Jonathan Wimmer XXII (twenty-tooth).


	Earlene Teaster, City Manager for Pigeon Forge was also an honored guest and she too was given her Doctorate Degree in Humoristic Science from SMU.




		Honorary Degrees were given to nearly a dozen dignitaries during the ceremony. No one has actually graduated from SMU in nearly 400 years.

And the Party Goes On!




	Our party was graced with the appearance of one of our celebrity Alumni and Past President, Groucho Marx. Groucho seemed a little out of breath when I spoke with him back stage. When asked why, he stated, "The coeds today run a lot faster than they used to." Mr. Marx spoke briefly to the crowd and parted with a word of good advice, "You bet your life".
